# Creative selection methodology

# What earns a place?

Selection v2: an example must change a product, ritual or audience role; communicate a specific unexpected idea; and have a retrievable source. Attractive packaging, routine tutorials, celebrity placement and ordinary refills do not qualify on their own. Reading order prioritizes an idea embodied in an actual object or participation rule, then execution specificity and brand fit. It is an editorial order, not a measured effectiveness score or a ranking of entire companies. Historical and current examples are mixed. MSCHF, Tony’s Chocolonely and e.l.f. are labeled broader references, not verified DTC-native brands. Single AI-assisted editorial review; no independent second review or commercial outcome audit.

## What changed

19 of the previous 21 featured examples were replaced. Greatest Hates Live and Corpse Paint remain. Ordinary product demonstrations, refill formats, recipe content and licensed colorways left the featured selection. Their original research records remain available.

## Challenge the picks

Shock alone does not earn a place. Each review explains the actual execution, the specific mechanism and its limitation. Some work deliberately trades usefulness for critique or entertainment; that trade-off is stated rather than treated as product superiority.
